We’ve been creating apps for publishers since long before tablet devices were available. Our roots are in the magazine publishing industry and our approach has always been from the perspective of a media owner, rather than purely a technology business. When developing our app frameworks, our two key considerations are the reader and the publisher. This is why our clients trust us with the ongoing development of their apps; after all it’s our clients’ products that are on show.
The publisher needs to be able to decide how much time and resource to invest in each issue. Our role is to facilitate this decision and not to try to influence. You know your readers better than we do and our job is to help you understand them even better as you grow your audience.
We began developing iPhone frameworks in 2008, at a time when the first magazines testing the mobile market were creating simple PDF versions. In our view, this has never been the best way to engage readers on a smaller device screen – content needs to be provided in a format that’s easy to read and view. We set about creating our first iPhone app as a more user-friendly magazine experience.
Fast forward four years and we’ve seen a boom in the smartphone industry as well as the introduction and rapid growth of tablet devices to the market. The opportunities for publishers have been huge and we’re witnessing the burgeoning of an open global market, a concept that would have been uneconomical to print-only editions.
After four years of ongoing development, we find ourselves firmly established and ahead of the field in terms of our innovation.
Stonewash has an enviable list of ‘firsts’ in the market:
We’ve come a long way since our first meeting in a sandwich shop on Berkeley Square, early in 2008. Our team has grown but our philosophy remains the same: the readers’ experience always comes first.
There’s a lot more to come from Stonewash and we’re constantly developing our existing products as well as developing new ones, to ensure our clients have chosen the best platforms for their brands.
